Abstract

Introduction: Septic thrombosis of the cavernous sinus is known as a rare and life-threatening complication of infections in the head and neck area. Although the use of antibiotics has improved the prognosis, it is still known for its high mortality and morbidity rates. Objective: To analyze the presence of septic thrombosis of the cavernous sinus through the study of a single case. Methodology: Observational, qualitative and cross-sectional, supported by bibliographical support. Result: Case of a young female patient who presented a week after having symptoms of Covid, holocranial headache, right ophthalmoplegia, decreased visual acuity, pain, erythema, edema, orbital swelling, right suppurative yellowish ocular discharge, was He performed a brain tomography incidentally revealing thrombosis of the cavernous sinus. Conclusions: It was determined that septic cavernous sinus thrombosis is an infrequent and rare diagnosis. Also, cavernous sinus thrombosis has the highest mortality rate. Rarely, middle ear infection can be a cause of septic cavernous sinus thrombosis, and response to treatment is poor.
