Abstract

Introduction: Triage helps to classify and select the individual according to the health condition that the person maintains, with the nursing staff acting as the main piece thanks to the cephalo-caudal assessment and through vital signs, always prioritizing the affectation of the patient. Objective: Describe the importance of triage, as a gateway to the hospital level. Materials and methods: This article was carried out under the parameters of the documentary review, descriptive, monographic level. The technique applied was the bibliographic filing and the systematic analysis of the documents found on the web. Results: The triage process occurs when an emergency event exceeds the resources of a hospital. This process is what determines a priori, the patient's situation, classifying them according to the priority of care they require. Conclusion: Triage is an important process in emergencies, because it allows optimization of resources and care for affected people, guaranteeing adequate and necessary treatment at the right time.
