Emotional State of Health Personnel by Covid 19. A pilot study

Abstract

Introduction: The pandemic caused by the Covid 19, has generated emotional alterations in the general population and even more, in the health personnel, who have been facing this global health problem. Objective: Determine the emotional state of health personnel due to Covid 19; in addition, to evaluate the conditions in which they were working. Materials and methods: This is a cross-sectional study where emotional symptoms were explored in health personnel during the Covid 19 pandemic while they were carrying out their work in March 2020. A virtual questionnaire was carried out which contained general questions about Covid 19, prior informed, voluntary and anonymous consent to the participants. The survey was used as a research tool, using the Google Forms platform. The form was applied to 20 health professionals including doctors, nurses, assistants, obstetricians, psychologists, among others. Results: It was found that the surveyed population feels uncertainty, fear and anguish; but a feeling of responsibility and care also emerges in the face of COVID-19. Likewise, positive feelings for society are highlighted as an assessment of social interdependence. Conclusion: The results obtained indicate that the emotional impact is unequal according to gender, the educational level reached and the perceived comfort at home. It has been obtained as a result, the gender that has mostly participated in this study is female, with an age range between 28 and 37 years of life, mostly doctors; followed by nursing graduates, where they state that they were at a high risk of exposure and contagion; Despite this, they occasionally presented changes in their mood influenced by the workload; however, they did not allow themselves to be affected by fear, worry, and uncertainty, but instead continued with their work functions and fulfilling their responsibilities.
