Perception of humanized childbirth in puerperal women at the first level of care

Abstract

Introduction: Humanized childbirth characterized by respect for the values, beliefs,
feelings, dignity and autonomy of the woman during the birth process. Objective: To
determine the perception of humanized childbirth in puerperal women attended at the first
level of care in the Province of El Oro, Ecuador. Materials and methods: Descriptive,
cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 100 puerperal women attended at the Type
C Health Center, Velasco Ibarra during the period June-December 2020. A survey
prepared by authors was applied. The data were processed in the SPSS version 25
program. Results: The perception regarding the treatment of health personnel, 50%
identify with the users, 80% explain the procedure they are going to perform, 65% do not
treat them well, 58% of the Patients do not have professional support. 64% are not allowed
the presence of their partner or family member during this experience; 68% do not receive
guidance during labor, 68% do not respect privacy; 46% do not promote exclusive
breastfeeding. Regarding the perception of humanized childbirth, 76% indicate
moderately favorable and 24% consider it favorable. Conclusions: Regarding the
professional treatment where the identification of the professionals and the explanation
of the birth process in the majority of the users were very good perceptions regarding the
family accompaniment than bad, the disrespect for privacy, orientation and choice of
position for giving birth was regular.
