Abstract

Introduction: Oral health is, in essence, the work of the general dentist and he cannot ignore the responsibility of providing care to every patient. The excessively high incidence of HIV-positive patients among the population makes it difficult for a small number of dentists to deal with them. This person must have knowledge of the medical and pharmacological management of patients with this pathology, and be able to implement an appropriate therapeutic scheme for them. Materials and Methods: the present study was located as a field investigation. Since the problems described above and the objectives that derived from there led us to base ourselves on real events directly in the place where they occur, that is, at the EUDES Foundation, Bogotá - D.C., it allowed us to carry out collection methods for our research. field that consisted of determining the need for dental/surgical information to EUDES foundation residents through an unstructured survey, and practicing in a surgical case, for the changes that are proposed to vary from the surgical protocol. Results: Said clinical case can establish the convenience and adaptation of the use of antiretrovirals in said surgical protocol for patients with HIV/AIDS. The survey technique was recorded with a questionnaire instrument that was characterized by mixed questions to the inmates of the house. EUDES Foundation adult home; patients being selected voluntarily. Conclusions: it was demonstrated that the use of antiretrovirals for patients with HIV/AIDS is very beneficial since compliance with HIV ART prevents the virus from multiplying and destroying the immune system. Taking HIV medicines every day reduces the risk of transmitting the virus.
