Abstract

Introduction: The promotion of physical health in educational settings is a key strategy for enhancing the well-being and performance of the institutional community. This study presents the results of the implementation of a physical health surveillance plan at a higher education institute in Ecuador. Objective: To evaluate the impact of an institutional physical health surveillance plan through preventive, educational, and continuous medical care activities. Materials and Methods: A mixed-methods design (quantitative and qualitative) was adopted, with a descriptive and prospective approach, applied to a population of 500 individuals (students, faculty, and administrative staff). Structured surveys, semi-structured interviews, and medical records were used. Interventions included educational campaigns, workshops, preventive medical care, and follow-up of at-risk cases. Results: A 100 compliance rate was achieved for the planned activities. There was a significant improvement in healthy habits, a reduction in health risks, and a high level of participant satisfaction. Preventive medical care and educational campaigns received the greatest institutional investment and appreciation. Conclusion: The implementation of the surveillance plan proved effective in improving the physical and emotional environment of the institutional community. The experience gained provides a solid foundation for replicating this model in other educational institutions across the country.
