In Colombia, fish farming faces multiple business as well as social challenges. The management of rural solid waste has a new connotation from various perspectives, as it is an activity that generates adverse effects in social and physical environments, and where collaboration between the market and state intervention can lead to fair and effective solutions. In addition, they encounter high transaction costs and obstacles to engaging in markets dominated by large producers. These elements together negatively impact their income and quality of life, requiring a holistic approach that includes biological, environmental, social, and economic factors. The alternatives to overcome these inconveniences are associative schemes, which are the solution to these problems. Asopistar with its business model has demonstrated that the strengthening of collective baseline lines to generate productive projects has managed to transform these environments into territorial development schemes which contribute to the economic development of the Norte de Santander region. Keywords: Aquaculture, Sustainable development, Territorial inequalities, Associative schemes, Waste management.
