The protection of workers against illnesses and accidents related to their work environment is a fundamental issue for business organizations; therefore, the objective of occupational risk prevention in any field and at any level must be, above all, to warn of hazards in time and not to palliate their consequences a posteriori. The purpose of this study was to analyze the theoretical foundations of occupational safety and occupational risk prevention in organizations. It consisted of a non-experimental, documentary and descriptive study. Different legal, bibliographic and research background sources were reviewed. It was concluded that occupational safety and risk prevention in the organization seeks to ensure the physical, psychosocial and environmental well-being of workers by establishing processes and procedures for the identification, collection, treatment, analysis and interpretation of information on occupational accidents, occupational diseases and occupational risks in terms of workers' health.
